Aboriginal Diversion Unit - ADU

The Aboriginal Diversion Unit (ADU) is an initiative of the Department of Human Services, the COATS program of ACSO and Ngwala Willumbong Co-operative.

The primary focus of the ADU is to coordinate and manage drug diversion services to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people with alcohol and other drug issues that need to appear before the courts.

The ADU aims to identify access barriers in the current Alcohol and Drug forensic system.

The ADU will also develop appropriate strategies that address access, monitoring and reporting issues. ADU will focus on coordinating client access to services and provide advocacy roles between Aboriginal and mainstream drug and alcohol services.

What We Provide:

  • Coordination of client access to the Drug Diversion system and services
  • Advocacy roles between Aboriginal and mainstream Drug and Alcohol Services
  • Advice and Assistance for:
    • Navigating the Forensic System
    • Documentation
    • Data Collection
    • Identifying COATS / Diversion clients

What We Do Not Provide:

  • Assessment
  • Treatment
  • Case Management
